International Applicants
The Master’s in Telecommunications program has a diverse student body with students representing countries from all across the globe. Across the University of Maryland campus, approximately 133 countries are represented. International applicants are strongly encouraged review the International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) website and the Graduate School’s International Admissions information.

All application materials must follow the requirements and be received by the stated deadlines
International Student Application Materials:
International Academic Transcripts (Academic Records)
- Official copy of all previous degrees/diplomas and transcripts
- Records must should all coursework complete and grades/marks received
- Grading scale of your institution and your rank should be included.
- If a transcript is not in English, both an original language version and English translation must be provided. Only translations issued by the institution or a professional translation service will be accepted. Translations must be literal.
- Transcripts copies uploaded in the application must adhere to the ENTS transcript requirements
- Do not convert your GPA to the 4.0 scale
Evidence of English Proficiency
Applicants with international credentials must demonstrate English proficiency by submitting results for either of the following:
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
If your scores do not meet the minimum requirements, and if admitted, you will be required to take a placement test through the Maryland English Institute. Any English requirements will be a provision of your admission.

If Admitted, Newly Admitted Student Materials:
To be issued an I-20, admitted International Students need to provide additional materials to the ISSS Office. Upon admission, you will be contacted via email by ISSS regarding the next steps in the process. The email will be sent to the email address included in your application. You will need to respond to the requested information including, evidence of financial support, immigration history (if applicable), and shipping information. ISSS estimates that the I-20 will be sent out in approximately 21 days after all information is received and verified.
